Romania, at a favorable time for renewable energy: the chance to accelerate projects and capitalize on hydro and gas resources.
“Romania has significant untapped potential. We want renewable energy quickly, not just because it is green or sustainable, but for the immediate economic impact. Eurostat data shows that Romania is at the top in project development speed, with an average of 2.5 years, compared to 7-8 years in Greece and Bulgaria, countries that surpass us in renewable resources. It is essential to use this competitive advantage to reduce energy prices and increase national competitiveness. We must all contribute to this effort, because energy is fundamental to Romania’s economic future,” said Cătălin Stancu, associate expert at Horváth.
Andrei Manea, development director at OX2 Romania, emphasizes that although Romania is slightly behind in the development of renewable energy, it is going through a promising stage, with new companies entering the market and significant investments. “New developments started in 2021-2022, and wind projects require at least two years for implementation, longer than solar ones. We already have investors who have started construction, especially in the solar segment. I believe that in the coming years we will add 2-2.5 GW to the market, mainly through large projects,” said Manea.
Transforming energy consumption into a smart one, synchronized with production times, and efficient investments in storage solutions are essential to capitalize on renewable energy as an accessible and sustainable source. “As long as we adopt these measures, renewable energy remains an advantageous economic option,” emphasize specialists in the field.
